When we moved into our house in Eden almost two years ago, one of the things I was most excited about was seeing if any flowers would sprout up in the spring around our yard. Although we had a few random patches of flowers that grew, it was nothing too spectacular and hardly enough to clip and put into any vases in the house, which was a bummer. Then I discovered my favorite hidden gem right down the road, Henry’s Gardens, and it was all rainbows and butterflies (and brightly colored blooms!) from there.
We first visited Henry’s Gardens last summer and I couldn’t wait to head back this year to experience the U-pick garden again! The field near the greenhouse and shop is full of beautiful, bold-colored Zinnias and fun filler flowers to make your own bouquets. At just 60 cents per stem, you can’t beat it! You can even go pick your own flowers outside of business hours, which is an added perk (especially for us moms who have to plan activities around nap times!). Just be sure to bring cash (or change) with you to drop in the “Honesty Box” outside. A visit Henry’s Gardens is simple fun for the whole family – even your almost-two-year-old son who is only interested in running laps down the rows of flowers – and especially for moms, because let’s face it… it’s not too often you have a great excuse to buy yourself fresh flowers.
If you make it out during business hours, be sure to head into the shop at Henry’s Gardens where they sell fun planters, fairy garden accessories, fruit/vegetable/flower seeds to plant your own gardens, dried florals for unique decor, handmade wreaths, and garden gnomes!
There’s also an impressive greenhouse on the other side of the store which is typically chock full of beautiful shrubs, perennials, annuals, and hanging plants. Right now, Henry’s also has a large selection of succulents which are my favorites, since I was apparently born with a severe “black thumb” and kill almost every flower I’ve ever attempted to plant. Last fall, they also had white pumpkin succulent planters, and I’m hoping they make a comeback this season so I can get my hands on a couple!
Henry’s Gardens is a quick drive from the village of Hamburg (literally only about 6 minutes from the center of the village) and, in my opinion, it is well worth the trip! Their U-Pick flower field is an inexpensive way to spend a fun chunk of the day. My kids love being able to pick their own flowers, there is plenty of room for them to run their wiggles out, and you get to come home with beautiful bouquets for your home for a great price. It’s a win-win!
