Maker Moms: Rose and Mags Country Mile

“Maker Moms” is a segment of the Buffalo Moms Blog where we highlight talented mommas and their handmade businesses. In the few months since starting this series, we’ve been blown away with how many maker moms there are in our WNY community!

Today’s feature showcases Angelina of Rose and Mags Country Mile, and I seriously wish you could scratch and sniff your screen for this one. Her lotion bars and soy massage oil candles are incredible.

Learn more about Angelina, her family, and how her shop got its start below, then head to the bottom of this post for a special promo code!

Tell us a bit about yourself and your family.
Who are the Stewart’s? We are a family of 5. My husband and I have been married for 15 years this April. We have a outstanding, respectful, athletic son Hunter who is 14 years old and 4 year old identical twin daughters Rosaleigh and Magnolia. We are music lovers and kind of old fashion in our beliefs and ways of life. We live in the country and enjoy the little things the most.

What made you decide to start your own handmade business?
Rose and Mags Country Mile was started in June of 2012. While expecting the twins, I became very aware of what I was exposing myself, my family, and unborn babies to both within my home and what I was applying to my skin. I was already making candles but didn’t know the dangers of synthetic fragrances and parafin wax. They both contain known carcinogenic materials! I was determined to create something safe for both me and my children. In doing so, I discovered that I could actually make a candle that could be applied to the skin. After gaining a mind blowing 80 pounds during twin pregnancy, I used my secret remedy like it was my job. I religiously applied my blackberry sage massage oil candle to my skin two times a day every day! (Blackberries promote our sons natural collagen and elastin.) After having my twins, many of my friends and family asked what my secret was. I told them my candles. Everyone told me I should sell them, so I went out on a whim and listened.

Do you sell your products locally as well as online?
I sell my products in a few locations throughout WNY. Ava Grace Fashions in Ellicottville, Yarn For Ewe in Randolph, Cottage Collectibles in Jamestown, and Jesse’s Home and Gifts in Gowanda. You can also find us on Facebook and Etsy.

What are your goals for your shop?
My 2017 goals are to continue to help people and their ailments, continue to grow my business by finding more consignment locations, and opening my own brick and mortar gift shop.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned in your motherhood journey thus far?
The most important lesson I’ve learned in my motherhood journey has been: life isn’t about what you have, it’s about what you give. I’ve learned the true meaning of life and continue to learn every day. We honestly learn just as much from our children as they do from us!
