“Maker Moms” is a segment of the Buffalo Moms Blog where we highlight talented mommas and their handmade businesses. We’re obsessed with everything Rusterior, and after today’s post, we’re pretty confident you will be, too!
If you follow any local boutiques on Instagram, you’ve likely seen today’s Maker Mom’s products before. Their “Nap Time Hustle” shirt has made its way into my weekly rotation, and I can’t wait to sport the Buffalo flag baseball tee for Memorial Day (because at this rate, I’m thinking I’m going to need a shirt with sleeves for the holiday). Not to mention, their kids’ line is absolutely adorable – and super soft!

Tell us a bit about yourself and your family!
I am married to my wonderful wife Amber and we have three beautiful children that we adopted out of the foster care system. We live in Forestville, NY ( about 15 minutes from sunset bay) on a small hobby farm. My daughter Cameron is 7, Grace is 5, and our baby boy Noah is 2. They totally turned our world around in the best way possible and they are our three lucky pennies!
What made you decide to start your own handmade business?
I actually started my business as a creative outlet after the recommendation of my sister in law. When I started, my business was so different than it is today. I started making reclaimed home decor and sewing infinity scarves. I put some one the things on Etsy and my business just grew from there. I took a simple screen printing class and fell in love with the process and I am now on the verge of doing my first trade show in NYC. I never thought where I started 4 years ago would lead to this but I am so happy it has.
Do you sell your products locally as well as online?
I do sell locally! Some of the shops I’m located in are Buffalo Shop Craft on Elmwood, Beulahs General Store in East Aurora NY, Bay 6 Clothing Company in West Seneca, Rock Paper Salon in Medina, and more 🙂 We also sell our full line on ETSY and attend a lot of local artisan markets and events. We are in the process of opening our own mobile retail store out of a vintage Airstream trailer that will be open at our home on Sundays from 12-5 and also be available for pop-ups.
What are your goals for your shop?
Ultimately I want to be able to run my shop and brand full time. We also hope to open an actual brick and mortar location on our farm by 2020 or sooner.
What is the most important lesson you’ve learned in your motherhood journey thus far?
The biggest lesson I have learned in being a mom is you have to just go with the flow. I have an interesting journey to motherhood because it in a sense slapped me in the face with 3 children all at once. I had to learn to let go, and also that patience is a virtue. I learned that motherhood – much like childhood – is ever changing. You learn something new every day and its best to embrace and grow from it.
